Wander on over to Kindle Vella to read my weekly episodic adventure, Love & Murder, but French, about an unlikely pair caught up in a sinister plot along the scenic Cote d'Azur ...
What if you were 14 and wrongfully accused of murder ... and your only alibi is a dragon?
Guilty or not guilty, good or bad ... the world isn't so black and white.
Just because you do good things doesn't mean good things happen to you. (Ask me how I know.)
My initials are literally Egg. How did my mom not catch that? My Uncle Seb calls me Egg, and, even though it makes me want to throw an egg at his dumb, perfectly groomed beard, I roll with it. Gotta pick your battles, you know? And the battle to keep Earth from being enslaved by an other-dimensional, bitter, narcissistic overlord seemed a better one to pick than taking up arms over an obnoxious nick name.
Also I have an older sister called Philippa and she's cool or whatever.
Oh, hello! My, but this is a chance encounter. I shan't bore you with my full name -- you humans tend to struggle with Latin roots and therefore really slaughter it. Indeed, in my 438 years I've rarely met someone linguistically erudite enough to say it properly.
Anyhoo. I am simpy your above-average European Arrowtail, strapped with the knowledge of a thousand eons of experiential truama and glory alike. Also, I love the Beatles.
Hallo. Aye, tis yer right princely braunie, Leftennet Cuithbaert, with a heid full o' scran and a chiseled, muscely arm ready t'aid the wee bairn, my lassie Eve.
D'ye have any Nutter Butters, by chance? (She tells me not ta eat them, boot I do. Aye, they be right scran!)
Lang may yer lum reek!
I wrote what I always wanted to read:
Heroes who actually feel things (like depression and trauma), families who actually like each other, teens who are introspective with lives that don't revolve around crushes, characters who wonder about the universe like I do, plots that are twisty, and humor that is unexpected and genuine.
I think I've checked all of those things off my list, but I'll let you decide for yourself. At the very least, I think it's okay to be old(er) and still dream about dragons, to be a non-scientist fascinated by string theory and quantum physics, and to be confused and maybe a little frightened by the moving target that is mental health.
Cheers to you, gentle reader. I hope my stories make you laugh, ponder, and, most importantly, feel seen wherever you may be in life.
“He wasn’t going to let me argue. My scaled hero, my childhood fantasy and mythical best friend, lowered me down in front of my imprisoned mother with full faith that I would be able to free her. Alone.”
You’ve been accused of murder.
Your only alibi … is a dragon?
Falling asleep in math class (definitely not aware of you whatsoever) is Eve, a plucky introvert plotting to gain school notoriety and get over her inconvenient crush on the mean girl.
Lurking in clandestine dimensions (probably watching you this very minute) is an evil overlord plotting to enslave humanity and launch the universe into apocalyptic doom.
The two should never have met. But an ancient dragon looking to save Earth and its many dimensions (yeah, it turns out string theory is a very real thing) from destruction has other plans. Saving the world never comes easy, and Eve’s life gets increasingly complicated as she carries out the dragon’s tasks while coping with anxiety, school pressures, family secrets, and, finally, the curious death of a classmate.
This first fantasy coming-of-age thriller in the twisty Eve Archer series joins the fates of unlikely friends in a humorous, electrifying tale of simmering self-discovery with nods to astrophysics, mental health, and tight sister bonds, all while proving things are never, EVER as they seem.
